Spicy Scenes - How Claude's Structure and ChatGPT's Style Help You Write Better Romance with AI
In my previous post, I showed you my dual-AI writing process using an emotional, non-explicit scene. But what happens when you apply this same method to spicy content? How do Claude's own revisions compare to ChatGPT's style refinements when heat is involved?
Today I'm diving into the steamier side of my dual-AI process, using the same paranormal romance manuscript to show how this approach handles explicit scenes. The results might surprise you.
Please note: there is spicy content ahead and some of it is very NSFW and there could be triggers (mostly breeding kink). Proceed with caution if this could be an issue for you, but I'll keep the "worst" of it in the files.
Why Spicy Scenes Need Extra Attention
Writing compelling intimate scenes requires balancing multiple elements:
Physical authenticity without being clinical
Emotional connection beyond just physical attraction
Character consistency even in heightened moments
Pacing that builds and releases tension effectively
Voice that matches your established style
When you're working with AI assistance, these challenges multiply. Different AIs handle explicit content differently, and maintaining your unique voice while navigating AI boundaries requires a strategic approach.
The Same Process, Higher Stakes
My dual-AI method works the same way for spicy scenes:
Draft with Claude for emotional foundation and character dynamics
Refine with ChatGPT for style and prose polish
Final edit to add my own voice and world-building
But with explicit content, each stage becomes more critical. The emotional foundation needs to be rock-solid, the style refinements need to maintain heat without losing authenticity, and the final edit requires careful attention to voice consistency.
The Prompting Strategy Behind the Results
The differences between these versions aren't accidental - they reflect the specific prompts I used with each AI. Here's how I approached each one:
My Claude Prompt
If you can't tell from this, I was having major issues on this day with Claude going off on his own tangent and writing whatever the hell he wanted to - which was not a vicious, lusty demon.
You are writing Chapter 3 of "Ruin Me at Midnight" based STRICTLY on the provided story outline. Follow these rules:
1. ONLY include plot points explicitly listed for this chapter in the outline
2. DO NOT add new plot elements, characters, or complications not specified
3. DO NOT foreshadow or hint at future revelations before their designated chapters
4. DO NOT expand on mysteries or explanations beyond what's outlined for this chapter
5. If you want to add ANY element not in the outline, ask first - do not assume
6. All chapters are in their own artifact
For this chapter, include ONLY:
Damien watching as Chad makes his move. Damien is bored and wants to end it right now, Jade's life be damned, but he has his plan and killing Chad right now would jeopardize that.
Damien understands why Chad became obsessed with Jade. We get a description of her from Damien's POV. She's beautiful and sturdy enough for Damien's size. She looks like she can handle everything he has planned for her. And he likes her "bite".
We get a first look at Damien's power and everything he's holding back. Chad makes vague threats against Damien, implying he knows exactly what he is and Damien silences him when he realizes that Jade is watching and possibly hearing.
When Chad finally runs off, Damien goes back inside and Jade launches herself at him. He's caught off guard but immediately leans into it and slams her against the wall, kissing her enthusiastically. No one has ever taken her seriously and between the validation and the adrenaline, she loses herself in him.
Writing style: Present tense, Damien's POV, 3000 words, modern/edgy dialogue, no cliches or flowery language. Keep prose tight and punchy per the style guide.
If you catch yourself adding anything not listed above, STOP and stick to the outline.
Why this prompt works for Claude: This prompt leverages Claude's biggest strength - following complex instructions and maintaining narrative consistency. The heavy emphasis on structure ("STRICTLY," "ONLY," "DO NOT") and the detailed bullet points give Claude the framework it needs to build emotionally authentic scenes without wandering off-plot. The repeated warnings about sticking to the outline prevent Claude's tendency to over-elaborate or add unnecessary complications. By specifying POV, tense, word count, and style requirements upfront, I'm playing to Claude's ability to maintain technical consistency throughout a long passage.
My ChatGPT Prompt
I have chapter three here and the first part is fine but the sex is too sweet and not demon enough. I want it to be rough and wild. Can you help me fix it?
Why this prompt works for ChatGPT: This prompt is simple and leverages ChatGPT's strength in stylistic transformation. Instead of giving detailed structural instructions (which work better for Claude), I gave ChatGPT a clear emotional direction: "too sweet" → "rough and wild." ChatGPT excels at understanding tonal shifts and can intuitively grasp what "demon enough" means in context. The casual, conversational tone ("Can you help me fix it?") works well with ChatGPT's more collaborative approach. By focusing on the specific problem (sweetness vs. intensity) rather than giving technical requirements, I let ChatGPT use its strength in stylistic interpretation and prose refinement.
Case Study: Claude vs. ChatGPT on Spicy Content
Here's where it gets interesting. Let me show you the same intimate scene handled by both AIs, focusing on their different strengths and approaches.
Claude's Version (Structure-Focused)
The full file if you're interested in reading the whole thing:
Here's an excerpt from Claude's version:
I settle between her thighs and look up at her. "You sure about that?" "Show me what you really are." Permission. Finally. I let a fraction of my true nature bleed through—just enough to make my eyes burn brighter in the dark, just enough to make the air around us taste like smoke and sulfur. Her breathing hitches, but she doesn't look away. "Still want this?" I ask. "More."
And here's the final file from Claude after revisions for technical details. I HIGHLY recommend making sure all the technical details are correct before moving on to Chat because with Claude's artifact feature and the in-line "improve" feature, changing these details is MUCH easier in Claude. Chat will want to revise the whole section and you end up using too much memory and getting slightly different prose between revisions that you'll want to cut-and-paste later. Too much hassle and wasted time when Claude can handle it for you.
Claude's strengths: Character consistency, emotional foundation, natural dialogue progression, supernatural elements integrated smoothly.
ChatGPT's Version (Style-Intensive)
The full revision. THIS IS SPICY AND HEAVY ON EXPLICIT WORDING AND KINK!
Here's how ChatGPT handled the prose:
She launches herself at me. For a heartbeat, I'm not sure if she means to kiss me or claw my throat open. Jade doesn't do anything halfway, and this is no exception. Her mouth collides with mine, hot and frantic, her body pressed tight against me like she's trying to climb inside my skin. Her teeth catch my lip, her tongue demanding instead of pleading. It's a kiss meant to conquer, not seduce. I don't let mortals conquer me.
ChatGPT's strengths: More aggressive prose rhythm, heightened sensory language, immediate physical intensity, varied sentence structures. Chat is very good at giving different scenes from one act to another with different scene blocking, word choices, and VASTLY decreased use of repetitive, cliched phrases. He's also, apparently, very comfortable with kink. The breeding kink is inherent to this story and Calude wouldn't touch it. Using a program like NovelAI takes too long because it's collaborative and not a prompting-style setup.
My Final Hybrid Version
Here's how the same scene evolved after I blended both AI versions and added my own finishing touches (again, very NSFW):
The urge to drag her under me again is a gnawing itch. To shove my cock back inside her, to spill into her until she can’t hold another drop. To push her body past the breaking point again and again until she remembers nothing but me. But not tonight. I want her ruined, but not broken. Not yet. Instead, I settle back against the pillows, one hand still splayed across her lower back, holding her in place. Claiming. Reminding her, even in sleep, who she belongs to. Tomorrow, I’ll take more. Tomorrow, she’ll learn that this isn’t gratitude, or adrenaline, or validation. It’s something darker. Something permanent. And tomorrow, when she looks at me with those defiant eyes, she’ll finally understand: I’m not here to protect her. I’m here to possess her. In every possible way.
What I kept and combined: I used ChatGPT's immediate physical intensity and aggressive opening, but maintained Claude's character consistency and supernatural elements throughout. The final version balances ChatGPT's heightened sensory language with Claude's emotional foundation.
Key Differences in Approach
Pacing Strategy
Claude builds tension through dialogue and emotional beats, using conversation to establish consent and character dynamics before physical escalation. (He is OBSESSED with consent. He will go overboard with it sometimes. Consent is great in real life, but sometimes in fiction, it isn't.)
ChatGPT plunges immediately into physical action, using body language and internal monologue to establish character while maintaining momentum.
Language Intensity
Claude uses more measured language that implies heat through suggestion and character psychology.
ChatGPT employs more explicit sensory details and aggressive language choices that create immediate intensity.
Character Voice
Claude maintains consistent character voice through dialogue, keeping the supernatural elements balanced with emotional authenticity.
ChatGPT strengthens the dominant/predatory aspects of the character voice, using internal monologue to establish power dynamics more aggressively.
How Does This Help You Write Better Romance?
Writing with AI is about using all the tools at your disposal. Different AI programs have different roadblocks and systems written into their code. Using each program to its full potential while recognizing its limitations helps you avoid spending too much time on a process that's never going to work for what you need it to. It's natural to have favorites with programs, and honestly, Claude's interface is more ergonomic, but every program has benefits and weaknesses and understanding those up front helps you become a better romance writer by keeping you from developing your own AI echo chamber. This is a very volatile environment for writers and we have to be able to constantly evolve as the LLMs do or we'll get stuck in a workflow that's doomed to become obsolete.
Working Within AI Guidelines
One advantage of using Claude for spicy content is its ability to block out the scene and keep details between the characters consistent. Some people are having great success with kinky, spicy scenes with Claude, but I am not. What Claude does well consistently:
Increase heat through suggestion and emotional intensity
Create more intimate moments through character psychology
Build sexual tension through dialogue and power dynamics
Maintain romantic authenticity without crossing into clinical territory
But it's still focused on the emotional cues, not explicit sex. And, honey, I want explicit. So...
The ChatGPT Step Still Matters
While I've focused on Claude's revisions here, the ChatGPT refinement step remains crucial for spicy scenes. ChatGPT excels at:
Varying sentence rhythm to create better flow
Finding precise word choices that maintain heat
Eliminating repetitive phrases that can kill the mood
Polishing prose to match your established voice
Writing something that hits the needs of dark, explicit romance readers
Practical Tips for Spicy Dual-AI Writing
1. Be Specific in Your Prompts Instead of "make this sexier," try "increase the emotional intimacy while maintaining the power dynamic between these characters."
2. Ask for Character-Focused Revisions Request changes that deepen character connection rather than just adding more explicit details.
3. Focus on Emotional Progression The best intimate scenes show emotional development alongside physical action.
4. Maintain Your World-Building Don't let the heat make you forget important story elements or character backgrounds.
The Results Speak for Themselves
Using this dual-AI approach for spicy content has improved my romance writing significantly:
Better character chemistry that feels authentic
More engaging intimate scenes that serve the story
Consistent voice throughout varying levels of explicitness
Stronger emotional core in physical encounters
The key insight is that intimate scenes need the same structural foundation as any other scene - they just happen to include more physical and emotional vulnerability.
Have you experimented with AI-assisted intimate scene writing? What challenges have you encountered, and what techniques have worked best for you? Is there a particular problem you've had trying to get one or the other model to work for you? I'm toying with the idea of making a video of how I approach this method.
